Area Health Center Appoints New Medical Director

Dr. Delwyn L. "Del" Lassen of Sioux Center, Iowa has been named medical director at the Greater Sioux Community Health Center in Sioux Center. His appointment is effective April 1.

Lassen currently serves as the associate director of the Siouxland Medical EducationFoundation in Sioux City, where he teaches and supervises family practice residents enrolled in that program.

Lassen's schedule in that role will be reduced to accommodate his new duties at the GSCHC. As medical director, Lassen will provide clinical medical services to patients at the health center. He will also perform administrative duties and be available for consultation and collaboration with the health center's other medical providers.

The current medical director, Dr. Noreen O'Shea, will continue her association with the GSCHC. O'Shea recently accepted a position as medical director for the non-profit Union County Health Foundation and has taken on increased hours at the UCHF clinics in Alcester and Elk Point, S.D., as well as staff physician hours for Mercy Medical in Sioux City.

Lassen earned his M.D. at the University of Iowa in 1977 and then completed a three-year family practice residency in Sioux City. While engaged in private family practice, he served as a preceptor to medical students and family practice residents, providing practical experience and training to upcoming physicians.

In 1986, Lassen accepted a faculty appointment at the Medical University of South Carolina, and later returned to Iowa where he continues to serve as a clinical assistant professor for the University of Iowa College of Medicine as he supervises physician residents via the Siouxland family practice residency program.
