The Sioux Falls Area Immunization Coalition is a network of dedicated community partners working together to increase immunization rates and prevent disease through education and outreach. The coalition is comprised of health care and public health professionals, community leaders, parents, businesses and others who are interested in improving vaccination rates in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and the surrounding area. Coalition members are committed to advocating, educating and delivering services to increase immunization rates for all age levels – children, teens and adults – and to serving as an important source of immunization information for health care professionals and their patients.

The coalition focuses on different areas of immunization promotion such as making sure children get vaccinated before they enter school and senior citizens receive influenza vaccines; raising community awareness about the value of vaccines; and other focuses where members’ expertise and experience can impact immunization rates and overall health. Through information distribution, workshops, conferences and other outreach activities, the coalition works to enhance the delivery of safe and effective immunization services and to facilitate communication about the safety, efficacy and use of vaccines within the broad immunization community of patients, parents, health care organizations, and government health agencies.

  • Build a membership to include all applicable stakeholders and organizations within our community.
  • Create a community presence through marketing campaigns and developing an immunization panel of experts for the community to utilize as a resource.
  • Host an immunization conference in Sioux Falls.

The coalition hosted a statewide conference, Immunize SD, on August 4, 2017 in Sioux Falls to increase community awareness about vaccine preventable diseases and provide health care providers across South Dakota with high-quality education and community outreach resources. Topics that were covered included adolescent vaccinations, vaccine hesitancy, vaccines on the horizon, and the human papillomavirus (HPV). More than 170 health care professionals from across South Dakota and the country participated in the coalition’s first statewide conference.
